Subject:Summer Institute in Computational Social Science – Florida Atlantic University

Dear colleagues, I hope this email finds you well. Please share this free data science boot camp opportunity with your junior colleagues and PhD students (travel, lodging, and dinners must be covered by the participant). Some comfort with R or Python is necessary. On behalf of the organizers, I am pleased to invite applications for the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science – Florida Atlantic University (SICSS-FAU 2026), which will be held June 1–5, 2026, on campus at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. SICSS-FAU is jointly hosted by Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing and the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice. (SICSS ) SICSS-FAU is a five-day intensive, interdisciplinary training program designed for Ph.D. students, postdoctoral researchers, junior faculty, and eligible early-career researchers/professionals interested in computational social science and data-driven research. The institute brings together scholars from diverse fields, especially those working in healthcare, public service, social science, public health, policy, behavioral research, and related areas. (SICSS ) The program will include lectures, hands-on training, collaborative project development, and discussions with faculty and guest speakers. Key topics include causal inference with observational data, text analysis, network analysis, survey experiments, machine learning, data science foundations, statistical reasoning, and model interpretability, with applications particularly relevant to healthcare and social service systems. (SICSS ) Participants are expected to attend the entire five-day, on-campus program. The program will include lectures, applied sessions, networking, collaborative discussions, and a certificate distribution ceremony, to be shared with selected participants, and posted on the workshop website soon. (SICSS ) Application deadline: Monday, April 27, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae and a professional statement through the SICSS-FAU application form. Applicants will be notified by early May 2026. Inquiries may be sent to sicss.fau@gmail.com . (SICSS ) The professional statement should address: * current research * reasons for interest in participating in SICSS-FAU * how participation will support future research * experience and/or interest in collaborative research * a potential topic, method, or question for a collaborative project (Application ) We would be very grateful if you could please share this opportunity with your faculty, postdoctoral fellows, trainees, and students, especially those in areas such as public health, medicine, nursing, social work, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, data science, biostatistics, informatics, health services research, and related interdisciplinary fields. More information is available on the SICSS-FAU website and application page. Thank you very much for your time and support. We would greatly appreciate your help in circulating this opportunity within your institution and professional networks.
