Beau Biden Foundation board member Dr. Viola Vaughan-Eden was named 2023 Outstanding Individual in Academia by the Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy.
Dr. Vaughan-Eden is at the forefront of child protection research, policy, and action through her work with the Beau Biden Foundation and UP for Champions, in addition to her position as Professor and PhD Program Director with the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work at Norfolk State University, and various social work organizations.
Dr. Vaughan-Eden will be a panelist, along with Dr. Kirsten Swedburg Ericksen and Dr. Breshell Jackson-Nevels, discussing the physical discipline of children. This expert panel is sure to be engaging and educational.

Leaving an abusive partner does not end the abuse for the children. Children may continue to be exposed to post-separation abuse - legal, economic, mental, and physical. Ph.D. candidate Kathryn J. Spearman will review the literature on children’s health consequences and outcomes related to post-separation abuse in two workshops at the National Conference to Protect America's Children.
Kathryn J. Spearman, MSN, RN is a PhD candidate at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. Her research includes the intersection of intimate partner violence and child abuse, intimate partner violence related-homicides of women and children, and structural determinants of health and safety.

One Love Foundation will be presenting a workshop discussing the danger signs of unhealthy relationships and managing boundaries in relationships. Participants will learn how to identify and avoid abusive relationships. Presented by Grace Carmichael, One Love's Program Growth Manager, this workshop will help youth-serving adults discuss safe relationships with the youth in their care.
