Dear Colleagues, I am passing along the following message about a training on coding D profiles for the Working Model of the Child Interview (WMCI) for clinical and/or research purposes. This message is being sent on behalf of Dr. Carolyn Dayton, my colleague at the Wayne State University School of Social Work and Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute, in case you or anyone you know is interested in attending this training: Dear Colleagues, I am writing to gauge interest in offering a WMCI-D training with Dr. Diane Benoit. My doctoral student, Katie Halquist, and I are interested in hosting a virtual training. Katie has been in contact with Dr. Benoit, who is very interested in offering a training. Note that you do NOT have to be familiar with the traditional WMCI 3-way coding to participate in the D training. Below are the nuts and bolts of participation and cost. Please feel free to distribute this widely – a virtual format means attendees could join from anywhere. Please let us know if you’re interested: katherine.halquist@wayne.edu . This VIRTUAL training will be offered over 4 days from 9am – 3pm and includes 2 options: Option 1 - Research Training - $2,400 (approximate, based on 3,000 Canadian): For those who want to become a reliable coder in order to code the interview for research - this tuition includes the training, all training materials, the practice transcripts and coding sheets, virtual consultation/feedback sessions, and the inter-rater reliability test transcripts and feedback (see below for details about establishing reliability with Dr. Benoit). Option 2 - Clinical Training - $1,200 (approximate, based on 1,500 Canadian): Includes the 4-day training and all training materials, but not the practice transcripts and coding sheets or inter-rater reliability test transcripts and feedback. Training Description The Working Model of the Child Interview - Disrupted scale [WMCI-D scale] is a coding scheme used to categorize a caregiver's disrupted perceptions and subjective experience of their child and relationship with their child. Caregivers’ responses to the WMCI interview are coded with the WMCI-D scale to capture features of caregivers' discourse about their child that are linked to the caregivers’ unresolved mourning and/or unresolved trauma. The WMCI-D scale can be particularly helpful when working with caregivers who have been exposed to trauma. The WMCI-D scale is distinct from the WMCI 3-category scale one does not need to be familiar with the traditional 3-way WMCI coding scheme to attend this training. During the 4-day training session, we will be using: Application of the WMCI-D coding scheme to both prenatal and postnatal WMCIs; Use of both video-recordings and transcripts of WMCIs; The training will take place from 9:00 am to approximately 2:00-3:00 pm. During the 4-day training, everyone will be expected to code 1-2 WMCI transcripts every day; For those who complete the reliability/research training, upon completion of the 4-day training session – 20 transcripts will be provided to be used for practice (with coding sheets) and 20 transcripts to be used for the reliability test. A deadline will be determined when all practice transcripts have to be coded and when the reliability transcript codes need to be submitted. At various points during your coding of the practice transcripts, you will meet virtually with Dr. Benoit to discuss questions that might have come up during your coding of the transcripts. In order to become reliable, 80% is required to 'pass' the reliability test. It should be noted that attending the research/reliability training does guarantee establishing inter rater reliability.
