Regardless of whether you are working in a resource-poor, low-income country or setting or another type of environment, the principles of evaluation are the same. * Are you a practitioner working to prevent child maltreatment in a community-based setting? * Do you want to know how well the programs you implement are working? * Do your funders require you to demonstrate that your efforts are effective? * Would you like to learn how to do better evaluations and improve your practice? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, this is the class for you! Using examples from a variety of settings, this course is designed to enable participants to practice basic skills selecting and evaluating a specific intervention program or policy relevant to their setting. This will include critically examining different approaches to prevention of child maltreatment, emphasizing the public health approach to primary prevention at the community and policy levels. It will focus on developing basic skills in using existing surveillance data for the purposes of planning and evaluation in the US or any international setting. Course Hybrid Format This is a course that consists of primarily of online self-paced learning opportunities with occasional live virtual sessions that will start the week of January 24 and extend over a period of 16 weeks. The course will consist of: * Recorded lectures in addition to periodic discussion sessions to be scheduled based on participants' time-zones. * Readings to supplement the lecture material. * Exercises designed to help participants put the course concepts into practice. * Each participant will be expected to prepare regular assignments to be completed by set dates. * Individualized feedback/technical assistance will be provided on all assignments.
