Subject:New Data Available: Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative
Hello!
For the first time ever, the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative will make its data available to researchers. This data can be used to examine critical questions about the experiences of young people transitioning out of foster care and into adulthood. It is one of only a few comprehensive publicly available datasets containing longitudinal data on foster care experience, young adult outcomes, youth engagement, asset development and social capital (e.g. connections to supportive adults), with data from 17 states and thousands of young people. The datasets span from 2003 to 2021, with surveys conducted twice each year. Moreover, the dataset now contains important data on internet and technology access and COVID-19 with the ability to examine young people’s outcomes over time and whether and how they change due to COVID-19.
We are looking for a wide range of researchers to use this data and produce high quality research to improve the lives of young adults involved in the child welfare system.
