Subject:Child Maltreatment Editorial Board and Student Editorial Board Positions Available

Colleagues, Child Maltreatment (CM) is the scholarly journal of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) CM and the Board of Directors of APSAC are soliciting nominations of scholars from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives (e.g. medicine, law, social work, psychology, psychiatry, nursing, public health, and public policy) to serve on its Editorial Board and Student Editorial Board. Details for each are available below: Child Maltreatment Editorial Board: The responsibilities of Board members include promoting the journal, encouraging submission of high-quality manuscripts, consulting on the overall direction and focus of the journal, providing anonymous peer review of submitted manuscripts, and working on special projects as needed. Prospective Board members should be willing to review between four and six manuscripts annually. Nominations should include a curriculum vitae and a cover letter describing: 1. The applicant’s major discipline and focus of work in the areas of research, practice, or policy related to child maltreatment; 2. Specific topics and areas in which the nominee is highly qualified to review. Nominees should describe their research and/or practice competence in these areas as well as any previous experience as a reviewer (describe experience in conducting or evaluating empirical research and data analysis) 3. Any research, practice, policy, or cultural perspectives the applicant would bring, which would enhance the diversity of the board; 4. The applicant’s understanding of the work expectations. Nominations must be received by January 3, 2020. Self-nominations are welcome, as are nominations in support of a colleague who has agreed to be nominated. Please send documents in Word or PDF of the packet by e-mail to Dr. Daniel Whitaker, Editor In Chief, childmaltreatment@apsac.org . Graduate Student/Postdoctoral Fellow Section of the Child Maltreatment Editorial Board Child Maltreatment (CM) is seeking outstanding graduate students, interns, or postdoctoral fellows to serve as members of the Student Section of reviewers, which is adjunctive to the CM Editorial Board. The Student Section provides students an opportunity to gain experience in the scientific peer review and publication processes. Student Section members provide anonymous manuscript reviews under the supervision of a faculty mentor. Once the student review is approved by the faculty mentor, it is included in the journal’s decision and feedback process and forwarded to authors. As with all CM reviewers, students then receive anonymous copies of all other reviews of the manuscript, so that they may compare their analysis and comments with those of recognized experts in the field. Student Section members are encouraged to attend and participate in Editorial Board meetings and discussions but do not serve as Board members. They are expected to complete up to four reviews a year. A total of six students will be selected to serve 2-year terms from January 1, 2020, through December 31, 2021. Applications are encouraged from students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows of diverse backgrounds and professional disciplines, including psychology, social work, medicine, law, criminal justice, and other areas related to child maltreatment. At the beginning of their term as reviewers, students must have at least 2 years remaining under the supervision of their faculty mentors in their graduate or fellowship programs. Student Editorial Board members will receive a complimentary membership to American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, the publisher of CM. Applicants are asked to submit, online (childmaltreatment@apsac.org ), a single pdf document that includes the applicant’s curriculum vitae, statement of interest, and faculty mentor’s letter of support. The student statement should describe professional area(s) of interest and goals for a 2-year term as student reviewer with CM (no more than two pages, double spaced, 12-point font). The faculty mentor’s letter should indicate the qualifications of the student applicant and the willingness to supervise up to four reviews a year. Application materials are due on November 15, 2019. We anticipate announcement of student selection will be made by the end of December 2019.
