Subject:2019 National Human Services Training Evaluation Symposium (NHSTES)

The National Human Services Training Evaluation Symposium (NHSTES) will be in Baltimore in May. Proposals are due February 15th (but this deadline may be extended). The theme for the three-day symposium is Child and Family Services Evaluation: Partnerships in the Era of Family First. Purpose of the Symposium: We invite you to join national and international training evaluators in the human services field with a focus on child welfare to share evaluation ideas, challenges, and methodologies in an atmosphere of collaboration and support. The symposium is a unique opportunity for child welfare training evaluators to: · learn new methodologies, · discuss evaluation strategies and issues that permeate our work, and · craft tested, research-based solutions to improve training quality and transfer. The symposium will address a spectrum of training evaluation issues to improve the quality and effectiveness of child welfare training evaluation projects. Special emphasis will be on: · building a robust evidence base using multiple and varied data collection and · analysis strategies and methods that lead to improved programming and professional practice, and therefore more positive outcomes for families, youth and children. Symposium Schedule: Although the complete symposium schedule and programming have yet to be determined, the NHSTES will be held on Tuesday, May 21 – Thursday, May 23, beginning the morning of May 21. Continental breakfast and lunches will be provided for all three days. The setting is the UMB Campus Center at 621 W. Lombard Street, Baltimore MD 21201 Tuesday, May 21 | 8:30 am–5:30 pm *Registration: 8:30 am – 4:00 pm *Breakfast: 8;30 am *Symposium: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm *Welcome Reception: 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm Participants will have the opportunity to participate in in-depth exploration of given topics. You are encouraged to attend the Welcome Reception. You are encouraged to dine together; several options at local restaurants will be provided. Thursday, May 23 | 8:30 am–noon *Breakfast: 8;30 am *Symposium: 9:00 am–noon In the latter part of the morning, we will conclude the symposium with a wrap- up discussion to distill what we have accomplished in our gathering. We also want to know what worked regarding the format and content this year, and what could be improved for the next year. The success of this symposium depends on the full participation of all attendees regardless of whether you directly present or facilitate a workshop or simply attend. We welcome your curiosity, experience, and wisdom to enliven and deepen our animated discussions. Discussions may focus on (but are not limited to) the following: 1. Updates on projects that have been presented at prior symposia (looking for updates on subsequent stages of a project’s existence) 2. Discussion/small group activities to facilitate problem-solving on projects 3. Evaluating child and family services in the era of Family First. For example: · Allowable evidence-informed Family First services or programs o Mental health o Substance abuse o Parenting skill-based programs 4. Evaluating implementation of Family First services or programs 5. Evaluating steps to support and enhance a competent, skilled and professional child welfare workforce 6. Evaluating multiple modalities of training, including E- Learning/Distance Learning, in Family First skill development 7. Effective performance management evaluation under Family First, 8. Evaluating cultural responsiveness 9. Linking training to organizational performance Participating in the Symposium The symposium is an interactive event, which seeks to maximize participation of all participants in a relaxed, collegial atmosphere. PRESENTERS If you wish to prepare a presentation, discussion, panel, or workshop, please refer to the Presenter Guidelines and Call for Proposals . Proposals are due by February 15, 2019. FACILITATORS If you wish to assist by helping to facilitate the discussion for another presenter, refer to the Presenter Guidelines . Register by April 12, 2019, indicating that you are willing to assist. ALL OTHER PARTICIPANTS If you would like to relax, enjoy, and participate, please register by April 12, 2019. Registration and Payment DEADLINES FOR REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT ALL participants must register online by April 12, 2019 at https://nhstes_2019.eventbrite.com . Due to the symposium’s popularity, only training evaluators in the field of human services (with a focus on child welfare) who submit payment and complete the online registration process by April 12 may be accepted. Space is limited to a total of 60. Completed registrations will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis for registrants who: a. can attend the entire symposium program (all day Tuesday, Wednesday and half-day Thursday), AND b. register online and submit their payment by April 12, 2019. Please ask to be put on the waiting list if you cannot attend all three days of the symposium. FEES/PAYMENT · Symposium: May 21-23—$300.00 · In the event that a few slots may be available for on-site registration, the symposium fee will increase to $350.00 at the door. PAYMENT METHOD Payment is due when you register online. Payment can be made by credit card or by check payable to: University of Maryland School of Social Work c/o Gene Severance 525 West Redwood Street, Baltimore, MD 21201 Please write NHSTES in the memo portion of the check. • In the event that we are not able to offer you a reserved space for this year’s symposium (due to reaching registration capacity), we will promptly refund your payment. CANCELLATION POLICY To qualify for a full refund of the registration fee in the event of a cancellation, you must provide notice of your intent to cancel to Trisha Brown no later than 5 pm on Wed, May 1, 2019. After that date, refunds of the registration fee are not available for regular cancellations. SUDDEN ILLNESS/EMERGENCY If you become suddenly ill or an emergency arises that prevents your attendance at the symposium, you may be refunded up to half the registration fee—provided that you: a. notify us prior to or on May 17 of your illness/emergency, AND b. submit your request for the partial refund to Trisha Brown no later than June 10, 2019.
